Yes, Rolling Fatties is for sale

And YES, we’re still open and rolling as usual!

It seems so long ago that we were listening to Grateful Dead tunes, drinking Geary’s summer ale, and watching our puppy raid the green beans in our garden while we worked on renovating a beat up old ‘74 Airstream Argosy in our yard. Rob was pounding nails and I was building websites, and we wanted a change. We had a solid plan. This Argosy was going to become our food truck–Rolling Fatties–and we were going to serve Maine sourced burritos–Fatties.

Fast forward 13 years, and here we are, ready, finally, to let it go. That plan we laid out way back then–we’ve followed it, almost step by step, and it is telling us it’s time. When you talk to advisors or mentors during the developmental period of a startup like Rolling Fatties, there’s a lot of talk about how demanding and difficult the food industry can be and how frequently and quickly startups fail. No one seems to talk about the rewards. We’ve had more than our share. We’re convinced we have the funniest and most hard working and kind employees, the easiest, most generous and loyal customers, the most dedicated food producers, the most patient friends, and the cutest and most supportive community, in the most beautiful, adventurous, and rugged state. It’s pretty much all we could have asked for and we’d like to exit happy, healthy, and thankful, the same way we started.

Zig Zag Tortillas is a new business, selling the tortillas made in and used by the restaurant since 2013.

But, we are, again, ready for a change. We love this day to day, we’re just ready to interact with it in a different way… We plan to stay in town and turn our attention to our new business ventures — Kingfield/USA and Zig Zag Tortillas — which will add to the entrepreneurial momentum building in Kingfield and ease expansion opportunities for the future owner of Fatties. We don’t see our future without Kingfield. We love it here.

The restaurant will remain open until we find the right next owner, and we see two kinds of buyers who'd fit. One is someone ready to plant roots in Kingfield and bring fresh perspectives and energy to a sweet little community. The other is someone who sees the Rolling Fatties name for what it could become: keeping the original Kingfield home base while carrying the local food mission to new locations around Maine and beyond. Rolling Fatties is trademarked and would be a unique and fantastic franchise opportunity.

We are open to any sale configuration of the building and business that fosters success, continuity, and sustainability for what we’ve created. Since we’ll be in Kingfield, we’d be thrilled to help with a transition or an expansion period or completely step away. We’d sell just the business, sell it with the property, or retain the property to ease the financial burden of the transition. We would sell it all and support it with our eager patronage.

Want to help, in some small way, to keep Rolling Fatties in Kingfield? Share this post, share our story, share our information, talk to us, talk to people who might want a little slice of the good life up here in Kingfield, Maine. We are truly open to a life for Fatties after Rob and Polly MacMichael.
